Frank Rushton Mission Statement

Our mission at Frank Rushton Elementary School is to provide a rich academic experience within a positive and secure environment. Each child will be expected to reach his or her full potential. Students will be challenged to become responsible, self-motivated, independent, life-long learners with effective communication and problem-solving skills.

About Our School

What makes Frank Rushton unique? Frank Rushton’s greatest assets are its students and staff. We are a diverse group; 67% Hispanic, 18% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian/Other.Our students come from the United States, Bangladesh, Burma, Burundi, China, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Liberia, Mexico, Nepal, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The following languages are spoken by student groups and their families: English, Spanish, Bangla, Chinese, Creoles and Pidgins English, Ethiopic, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Karen, Kuanyama, Lao, Maay Maay, Malay, Oromo, Ponape, Russian, Somali, Swahili, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Approximately 70% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches.

As 50% of our student population is ELL (English Language Learners), the teaching staff has made a commitment to become ELL endorsed by the state of Kansas, and more than half of the instructional staff has completed their endorsement.Special annual events include Score 1 for Health screenings, Talent Show, Family Nights, Student Council community projects, Fitness Day, and Jump for Heart. Teachers volunteer to sponsor various after-school clubs for students throughout the year.

Professional Learning Communities

Frank Rushton staff works together each week in a variety of learning teams throughout the year. Our typical professional learning communities (PLC’s) consist of grade level teachers working together to study data, develop and review lesson plans, and discuss how to implement new learning strategies in the classroom. Teachers identify specific students in need of additional support and determine how to best meet those instructional needs.
